Marketing & Distribution

Black Is Family is a passion business that I ran from December 2020 - August 2021. The Ecommerce store ran from January 2021 - March 2021. The business centered around bringing positive media to the black community while highlighting black clothing designers who wanted to feature their designs on apparel. Black Is Family existed on shopify as an ecommerce website, and on social media as a influencer page for black history and media.

Black Is Family Website

As the founder of Black is Family, I wanted to create an online media platform where the black community can highlight their talents and skills without judgement.

The Business Details...

I was in charge of all operations as the sole employee of the business. From designing, to distribution of the products, and creating agreements with other black designers. I created original designs centering around our purpose in uniting black communities with positive messaging.

I also handled marketing, growing our facebook page to 1700 people within 2 months on a limited budget. Using content that was catchy to our target audience along with word of mouth, we were able to capitalize on a low acquisition cost for customers on the e-commerce store.

Defeating Colorism

IMG_3896.JPG

Defeating Colorism was a collaboration I did with a women's group based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Partnering with them allowed for their group to receive funding with a percentage of all sales going to their mission. We raised $1200 within 1 month with limited marketing and word of mouth.

All things come to an end... for now

Unfortunately, as the sole operations to the business while dealing with the oncoming Pandemic, I was not able to continue growing the business. I chose to close down to focus more on building my career skills in design but knew that this process helped me gain that interest. I was able to explore all part of an operational business while handling the important decisions neccessary to meet our customer's needs. Overall, I would love to re-ignite this project with a larger focus on bridging black communities together through business, skills, talent and more. I want to become what I always though BET should have been. A platform for the black community to progress forward.
